The first day at the fair...
I visited many scooter vendors. Some of them were ones I had talked with in the past. I told most of them that we were going to be at Dealer Expo and asked if they would be there.
After I got warmed up I tried a new angle with the Chinese vendors that seemed to get some traction. I started this pitch where I explained that over the years there have been many importers of Chinese scooters and that many of them have not done a good job with spare parts. This has lead to some angry customers. I told them that we have played a key role in changing some of this perception and that we were now a "trusted supplier" of parts to over 1500 repair shops nationwide. Then, at this point my pitch changed depending on the vendors presence in the USA. If they have a strong presence like Qingqi, I suggested that our customers like to purchase from us for several repairs they are working on and not have to call Qingqi for one part, Honda for another, etc. I said that we'd like to have a relationship with them and announce it to our customers; some of whom may want to become dealers as a results.
If the company did not have a presence in the US, they seemed more interested. I suggested we make a partnership and that we get information from them about models that are being imported and we announce to our customers that we have a partnership that allows us to get parts for this brand.
I mentioned that we would like a link from their web site and that we'd reciprocate. One vendor, I think Lifan or Qingqi was excited when I told them we could pay a commission for this link.
